Shoes - Not always an easy choice

The one benefit, if you can call it that, to being injured is that your shoes last longer. As great as that sounds I would much rather be putting more miles on my running shoes.

My current pair of running shoes, the New Balance MR768ST has been getting a rest lately, however it won't be long before the mileage will start to tick again. This made me wonder the other day.... how long will it be till my next pair of shoes will need to meet the current budget cuts? I took a look at my running log and found that my current pair is nearing 300 miles. For the miles that I had been running it won't take long once I get back to running before I will be in the market again.

I have tried a couple different brands of shoes, but every time I have come back to New Balance. I have been a one trick pony when it comes to shoes that meet my needs and the others that I have tried never seem to even come close.

My current running shoes, as mentioned above are the New Balance MR768ST, and by far are my favorite. These shoes even are a step above my previous pair of New Balance, even though my previous pair, the M767SB was the predecessor to this model. This series gives me the support that I need and has been the only shoe that I have been able to run in completely pain free. The shoe is stable and yet doesn't feel too stiff. I also think it is one of the lightest pair of shoes I have ever owned.

Now I just need to get running again.... I am fully expecting the Doctor to give me the go ahead in the next couple weeks. Now..... to pick the marathon.... :)

  1. How about the Rock & Roll Marathon in San Jose? Is October 5th enough training time? I think my wife and I will be doing the half.

  2. Speaking of shoes, as a finisher of the Akron Marathon, you get a pair of Brooks Running Shoes. It covers the price of the race!

  3. Thanks all for stopping by.

John, sorry you had issues with OpenID. CA may be a bit far for me for a first Marathon, although I could use it as a good excuse to go to CA. :)

Kim, that is pretty cool, Once you train for a marathon, you would need a new pair of shoes. I replaced my last pair two days after my half marathon.

  4. Shoes are so individual. I have always been an Asics Gel Kayano girl, but I am now trying Saucony Progrid, and LOVING them. Glad I decided to switch.

  5. Not too much longer for me either getting back at it. I will be in the same boat as you as my ASICS I ran the marathon in are about done and my alternate pair of Mizuno Wave Riders have about 300 miles on them and are breaking down pretty badly already. :(

I, like Marci, may give Saucony a try, but while on vacation, I tried on a pair of ASICS Gel Nimbus 10's and... WOW! I loved those... just not the price @ $134.99.

  6. Marci - I completely agree. I think everyone will be somewhat different.

Rick - Glad to here you will be back at the road soon - it has been a long slow journey for you since your marathon I know. Hope you find some good shoes!

  7. Hi Tim,
I can totally relate to what you wrote about being a "one trick pony" when it comes to running shoes. ;-) I find that no matter how many different brands of shoes I try on, I always come back to Nike, because they suit my gait & the shape of my foot the best. (Nike & New Balance are both known for their round, wide upper toe box. The main difference between the two brands is that Nike tends to have a narrower construction through the arch, while New Balance are typically wider throughout the entire footbed.)

It's great that you've found a shoe that works for your feet! Hope you heal quickly & feel better!

  8. Hey Tim,

New Balance are stable, pain free and lightest pair of running shoes. It’s better to purchase shoes that are fit enough to put into use. There are a lot of varieties of shoes available in the market. As per me Online Shoes Stores is the best place that offers the footwear as per our requirement.
