The steady rain was gone by the time I made it out the door but I was still left with sprinkles throughout the run and lots of puddles left from the last day of raining. I have run this route many times before so I know right where the water puddles up so I was able to avoid stepping into anything unpleasant.
I am not sure if it is becoming a habit given this past Sundays run, but I once again was overdressed for the weather. I am not sure about you, but 30 anything and rain sounds like I need to be saying burrrrr. I dressed for what I thought would be wet and very cold, but it turned out to be damp and sticky.
The run went good, but took a bit more energy than I expected, although I am sure this is probably because of the poor dinner choice I made last night. I started the first mile off at 9:37 and dropped each mile to end the 4 miles at an 8:17 pace.
Do you ever overdress for your runs based on what the weather says, or maybe your problem is under dressing?

I will take 39, it would be a bliss here
ReplyDeleteI as well will take 39 and outdoors. For now I am confined to indoors; until the knee is more stabilized. I tend to overdress in the cooler months of November - March. You are right 39 and rain makes me think cool conditions.
ReplyDeleteIt has taken me some time but I think I have finally got the dressing for the weather thing down now. The only area I have problems with are my hands. They just never seem to get warm not matter what gloves I use.
ReplyDeleteI understand Big Daddy Diesel. I do have to say I have weakened up since I have been in Atlanta for 11 years now. Being from the Michigan / Indiana / Wisconsin area growing up I know I am now a wimp, but I guess it is what it is. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind running in the 39, and it is quite comfortable, but with the rain mixed in it just sounded cold, hence the reason for overdressing.
C2Iowa, I am sorry about your knee, hope you can get back outside soon!
Christi, I am with you on the hands. My hands by far are the hardest to regulate. They are either too cold or too hot, never just right. I run with gloves a lot though, even sometimes when I have short sleeves and shorts on.... just because they get cold so easily.
Thanks everyone for the comments!
Sweet job on the negative splits, woot!
ReplyDeletebtw, the coupon for the detergent came in the mail the other day - I will pop out and get that this afternoon. THANKS!!!
I would like to say that I nail my dressing almost every time! (humble, huh?) I truly geek about getting it right and over the years, I think I've learned pretty well what works/doesn't work for me in all temps.
ReplyDeleteThis afternoon I ran in shorts at about 35 degrees as a snow/drizzle came to an end, and I was still overdressed on top. I even took my gloves off the last half mile. I'd rather under dress any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to run in the cold drizzle, so I put off that run until today. I usually run in shorts long sleeved shirt and windbreaker for weather like that. I have overdressed before. Just treated it like a warm spring day.
ReplyDeleteI probably end up under dressing more than over dressing. When it is cold out I try to wear the minimum I need to stay warm when I am not moving so that I don't over heat once I start running.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill - glad to hear you got the coupon in time, you will have to let me know what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteWell isn't that nice misszippy that you always get it right :)
David - I must just be cold natured because I hate to be underdressed. It all started when I started losing the weight 4 years ago.... I am now cold a lot, so shorts just don't cut it for me.... either that or I am just a wimp which is highly possible as well :)
Will - hope your run went good yesterday!
Patrick - Thanks! sounds like you are a lot like David.
Garnishing the will power to get up in the early am and run in increment weather is Pulitzer.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on doing my long run outside tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI am aching to get up and run outside, it has been to cold here recently.
Thanks for your comments on my blog!
I really appreciate all the support and encouragement.
Thanks Dominique and Art!
ReplyDeleteArt - enjoy your outdoor long run tomorrow! Keep up the good work on your blog!
wow, 39 degree RUN? I'm impressed...I don't think I could run in that weather, but you give me motivation that I can. eww and the drizzly rain on top of it...AWESOME! I just ran, but only accomplished my wussy, 3miles...why can't I get motivated to run long distances?? HELP!
ReplyDeletei'm actually totally fine with cold or wet, but the to together not my cup of tea
ReplyDeleteMarissa, great job with your 3 miles! Slow and steady, just add a little bit at a time. If you add just 1 mile to your longer run each week you would be amazed how quickly you will be at really long distances!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, you and me both!!
