Packet Pick Up and Volunteering

The Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon are just two days away and even though I am running the half marathon in lieu of the full marathon, I am still excited for this weekend.  The excitement and anticipation may not be quite the same as it would be if I was running the full marathon, but that is to be expected.

Today I am heading down to the Expo at the Georgia Dome to both pick up my number, but also because I am volunteering at packet pickup.  I have volunteered for different races, including the mile 18 water stop of this Georgia Marathon a few years back, but have never volunteered at the Expo before.  I am really looking forward to the excitement of all the runners today.

On race morning my daughters are also volunteering at a water stop as part of a group for the Amanda Riley Foundation.  Amanda was a runner on the Brookwood XC team the year before my daughters started running for Brookwood.  I think they are at one of the later water stops so I will not be passing them like I would have if I was running the full marathon.  That could be a good thing since do they really want to see their dad looking like death when he still isn't finished with the marathon? :)

If you are running the Publix Georgia Marathon and will be picking up your packet today make sure you look me up - I am the bald one :)

  1. I know that you would rather be running the full marathon but I wish you the best of luck! I hope that the running gods smile on you and that the weather and your body cooperate!

  2. I volunteered at packet pick up for the Thanksgiving Half. Probably one of the most fun volunteer positions. I loved seeing the excitement of the runners who were doing the half for the first time!

  8. It was a lot of fun. I loved talking to all those that came to pickup their numbers and also met in person a lot of people that stopped by to say hey from the blog, Facebook, Twitter, and mostly Dailymile.
