1 Month Countdown

Just one month left to the Peachtree Road Race. I am once again looking forward to the Peachtree. This will be my second year running it, however, this year will be much more exciting due to the following reasons.
  • I now have experienced it so I know what to expect
  • I have a qualifying time so I should be near the front, with a chip
  • I am going to set a new PR :)
  • I may have a chance of getting my name in the paper!
Wish me luck. I have one more 5k race to run before that time, the S.W.A.T. Trot, but other than that the Peachtree is next on my list.

  1. Believe it or not. Been in Atlanta since 84 and Im running the Peachtree for the first time this year. Can you share any tips that you learned from last year. What was your qualifying time?
    thanks,

  2. Some of the things I can think of right off is.

Take Marta, but get there really early, and get your Marta token before the day of. This was the biggest road block of the whole day... getting a token, and getting on the Marta.

When you get in your timeslot, sneak up towards the front of the pack so you can get a good clean start. I felt kinda sleazy doing it, but after I did and still got slowed down by walkers I didn't feel so bad (my friend told me to do so, and he had run for almost 10 years)

Get in line and use the port-o-potties soon, there is too long of a line and if you get in line 30 min before race time you will be too late.

Watch for walkers - they will be all over the place.

Watch the cups, if you are too far back the cups will pile up.

Be well hydrated, I don't have to tell you this being from Atlanta though!

Watch for walkers - did I already say this?

Have fun, I think it is more about the experience than anything else with the Peachtree. Watch for the crazy people, they are funny, but also can be annoying and get in the way. I passed all kinds, including people running with a camera crew and entourage.

My qualifying time was 48:03 at the Shamrock and Roll in Atlantic Station the day the registration came out. I am excited, last year it was my first 10k so I didn't have a qualifying time. I finished last year in 1:03:59 so I am really excited to see what I can do this year.

    Good luck!
